What is the time commitment for a volunteer?

Volunteering can be as large or small a time commitment as befits your schedule. Many of our volunteers will offer a minimum of four hours each month.

What day is the Fresh Foods Drive and when should I arrive to help?

Fresh Foods occurs on the second Tuesday of every month except in December. Volunteers are welcome to arrive at 2:30 p.m. for set up and stay until clean-up at 5:00 p.m.

Will there be extra times when volunteers are needed?

Yes. Sign-up sheets are available in late October and early November. Please stop by the office to review the schedule.

Can my children or grandchildren help?

Teenage children are welcome to help but we cannot accommodate children under 14 years old. Teens help carry food boxes and turkeys to the cars during the food giveaway.

When is the best time to drop off gifts and toys?

The earlier the better! We sort and set-up the week after Thanksgiving. Toy appointments are the first two weekends in December. The majority of our clients come the first weekend.

 Are you collecting children’s books?

Yes, CazCares always welcomes new and gently used children’s books. Book tables will be available at both the gift giveaway and during the food basket giveaway.

We do not have space for adult books. Those donations should go to the Cazenovia Public Library for their Book Sale.

Does CazCares collect gift cards?

Gift cards to Kinney Drugs, Rite Aid, Tops and Walmart in $20-$25 amounts are helpful. We hand them out to clients with emergency needs. We also use them to purchase age-appropriate toys for the toy giveaway. We compare our toy inventory against the ages of the children in order to have an adequate selection.

What donations are appropriate for the Christmas food baskets?

During Christmas we need extra non-perishable foods such as canned fruit, coffee, tea, canned hams, nuts, cereal, muffin or cake mixes. We also welcome bags of oranges or apples.

What donations are appropriate for Christmas gifts?

We collect toys, books, hats, gloves, snow pants and new clothing for the Christmas gift giveaway.
